Kia Toa Values
Our school values are represented by the statement 'KIA TOA', which means to be victorious, brave, competent, skillful, capable, courageous, and a winner.
We use this phrase to describe our aspirations for all of the tamariki at Victory Primary School. Our Kia Toa values are the fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate our attitudes and actions. We teach these values as part of our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) approach to teach positive behaviour strategies, improve well-being, and increase educational achievement.
We have recently updated our Kia Toa school values after a thorough consultation process that involved staff, students, whānau, iwi, and the Board of Trustees.

Our Educultural Wheel
As a staff, we have spent a significant amount of time unpacking our Kia Toa values and defining what they mean to us in our context. As Māori values, their meaning is broad and deep and an English translation will never fully define them. All six of our Kia Toa values are interconnected and none of them sit in isolation. This is demonstrated by the following document, which is our school version of the 'Educultural Wheel' by Professor Angus McFarlane.
